A tea party with your teddies is fun, but wouldn't it be wonderful to have a snack with the birds who visit your home? Scout knows that sunflowers are an important source of food for all sorts of winter birds and for little kids too!  Let's join Scout & the Gumboot kids as they solve the case of THE GROWING BIRD FEEDER.

If you are in Australia click here to watch Scout & The Gumboot Kids. If you are in the United States, check us out on  or on Xfinity or Amazon.  In South Korea you can watch it on  Kids from around the world click here to listen to Jessie Farrell's songs.

Let's go outside, and find a few pine cones, and gather up some other wholesome ingredients. Then we can make feeders for the birds and some tasty & wholesome snacks for us too. Winter can be hard on our bird friends and they will really appreciate our help!

Here is what you will need:

- 2-3 pine cones
- 1/2 cup nut or seed butter
- 1 1/2 cup  seeds (flax, chia, sunflower, pumpkin are great choices)
- 1 piece of string or twine for each pine cone
- 1/4 cup honey or agave
- 1/3 cup  raisins or cranberries
- 1/2 cup oats

How to make it:

Carefully clean any loose dirt off your pine cones and set them on a plate or work-space. Wash your hands. Mix the nut/seed butter and the seeds in a bowl. Using a spoon or just your fingers, push bits of the mix into the spaces in the pine cones. Tie a piece of string around the top and it's ready to hang in a tree.

Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl, mix and roll into small balls with your hands. Let them sit in the fridge for 15 minutes and they are ready to eat. Well done!

While you are waiting for your energy balls to set, take this time to go outside and hang your bird feeder in a tree for the birds to enjoy.

What type of birds do you think you might see at your bird feeder? What other animals might be hungry this time of year? CLICK HERE to print a fun colouring sheet to think about who might visit your feeder. We would love to see what you draw!

Scout's Mindful Moment...

"As sunflowers grow, the flower turns to follow the sun. Next time you are outside and the sun is shining, sit somewhere peaceful, close your eyes and turn towards the sun just like the sunflower. Smile as you feel gratitude for the life force that gives our planet energy."
